Averaging 7 to a litter, wolf pups are born in the late spring, usually in May, and are reared in a natural cavity den or an enlarged burrow on a hillside or bluff, venturing out occasionally to frolic and play games. When they are old enough, the family will live outdoors, normally sticking to a circular hunting ground.
