Provenance $125.00 (Cervus canadensis) Among the largest of the deer family, elk stand more than 5 feet at the shoulder and weigh up to 1,100 pounds. The males' antlers tower 4 feet above its head, making it appear quite formidable. Found in wilderness areas of Canada and the northern U.S. they feed on large quantities of grasses, leaves and herbs. The males collect large harems and will fight, sometimes to the death, for the females. One calf is born in May, after breeding in September. Image size: 29 x 19 inches. |
